Questions from parents.
Who can apply to HTHS?
Applicants must be in eighth grade and live in Monmouth County as full-time residents when they apply. For Grade 9 entry, the student must be in eighth grade when applying. The application is open from October 1 to November 30, 2026.
Is there an entrance exam?
The admissions test is January 9, 2027. It covers mathematics and English language arts, and a picture ID is required. Every item on the exam is multiple choice, and students record answers on a bubble answer sheet. There are no essay or open-ended questions.
How are applicants scored?
Applicants earn up to 100 points: 15 for the 7th grade final GPA, 15 for the 8th grade first marking period GPA, 35 for the Math exam and 35 for the Writing and Language Arts exam. The minimum score for admission is 75. Applicants need at least 75 points to be eligible at any MCVSD school, but there is no set cut-off score above 75.
Can my student prepare for the exam?
HTHS says there is no way and no need to prepare for the exam. MCVSD does not endorse any company or organization that solicits students for review classes or practice tests.
Do we have to attend an information session?
Applicants must attend at least one information session at the Career Academy they plan to apply to. HTHS holds these four times a year from September through November, and the student and up to two parents may attend sessions 1 to 3.
Can my student apply to more than one Career Academy?
An applicant can apply to only one MCVSD Career Academy, and the application is considered for only one school.
When do families hear back?
MCVSD says processing takes about four to six weeks after all exams are scored. No decision date is published. The application deadline is November 30, 2026. MCVSD says late applications will not be accepted.
Is HTHSPrep affiliated with HTHS?
No. HTHSPrep by EduAvenues is an independent service, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by High Technology High School. Check every requirement and date on the school's own website before you apply.
